One of the very many pain relief procedures that we have here at South Bay Pain Doctors to Kyphoplasty. The goal of Kyphoplasty is to stop the pain caused by a spinal fracture, a type of fracture in the spine that is typically caused by osteoporosis. The procedure also strives to stabilize the bone and to restore some or all of the lost vertebral body height due to the compression fracture.

This procedure involves the insertion of needles into the damaged vertebral body, through which balloons are passed. These are then inflated under high pressure, which expands the compression fracture and corrects the deformity of the patient that is causing them chronic pain.

Once it is corrected, liquid bone cement is then injected into the vertebra in the cavity to permanently fix the restored shape. After being injected the pasty material hardens quickly, stabilizing the bone and hopefully stopping the pain.
